Cookie Policy
Last updated: 29 May 2026
Albarter uses cookies and similar technologies (local storage, session storage, IndexedDB, and pixel beacons) so the marketplace works, stays secure, and improves over time. This page lists what we use and gives you the controls.
1. What is a cookie
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. The browser sends it back the next time you visit, so the site can recognise your session or remember your preferences.
2. What we use, and why
Strictly necessary
These keep you signed in and the marketplace functioning. You can't turn them off; if you reject them the marketplace won't work.
- Session token (httpOnly) — keeps you signed in.
- CSRF token — protects mutations from cross-site forgery.
- Locale — remembers your selected language.
Functional
These remember choices that make the product easier to use.
- Sidebar collapsed/expanded preference.
- Saved searches and filters.
- Acknowledged onboarding tips and dismissed in-app banners.
Analytics
We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) to understand how the marketplace is used in aggregate. PostHog stores a pseudonymous identifier and a small ledger of events you triggered. We do not share these with advertisers, and we don't use them to build profiles about you for third-party use.
Realtime
Ably uses a short-lived token cookie to deliver live invalidation and chat events on signed-in pages. Without it you would have to refresh manually for new messages and badges.
Marketing
We do not currently set marketing or advertising cookies. If we do in the future, this section will list them and the cookie banner will ask for your consent before any are set.
3. Third parties
Some pages embed content from third parties (e.g. embedded YouTube product tours, social-share widgets). Those embeds can set their own cookies under their own policies. We disclose them where they appear.
4. How to control cookies
- Use the cookie banner the first time you visit, or revisit your choices from your account settings.
- Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Blocking strictly-necessary cookies will sign you out and prevent the marketplace from working.
- On mobile, the Albarter PWA uses local storage and IndexedDB for offline access. Clearing site data from your browser settings will reset those.
5. Changes
We update this page when our cookie use changes. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change.
